6 Ways to overcome gym intimidation  | Poetic Gangster

It’s so easy to be intimated by the gym. There’s the people, the equipment, the music and the noises. It can be sensory overload but a gym membership can be the best thing to ever happen to you. It’s easy to forget the real reason you’re there, for your fitness and health of course! Which is why intimation is a big no, no.  Here’s 8 easy ways to beat and overcome your gym intimation today:

1. Ask for help

If you’re feeling intimidated by the equipment and you just can’t fathom to drag yourself off the treadmill. It’s time to ask for help. You can book yourself a training session and have someone create a program for you and show how everything works. If you’re budget is too tight to pay for a training session, get the staff at the gym to show you around, after all that’s what they’re there for. Just ask they won’t mind.

2. Everybody’s looking at me

Firstly, nobody is looking at you, at least not as much as you think. We’re all in this together. Everybody is at the gym for the same reason. Have some confidence and think of your gym workout as a job you must complete. Complete your mission and then reward yourself at home.

3. Put your health first

4. Comparison paralysis

The biggest intimidation factor to overcome is looking at all the ripped, skinny and gorgeous peeps at the gym. It can become well, depressing. But stop right there, stop comparing yourself to others and chuck on your activewear and go full speed ahead. The more you compare and analyze, the more you’ll stay away. Everyone had a starting point. Focus on yourself and your own journey.

5. I don’t have anything to wear

It’s true active wear has taken off in the last few years and everyone is wearing cute tees and trendy pants but having nothing to wear is not a valid excuse to let your health slide. You’ve got fitness goals to achieve so get over it. And you can reward yourself with awesome active wear when you reach your goals.

6. I’m too unfit

It’s easy to get intimidated when you see the super fit running around the gym but remember everyone was once a beginner and you’d be surprised just how far people have come. Stick to your program. Ask for help if needed. Make the commitment and the results will show for themselves.

As you can see there is really no excuse to be intimated at the gym. No matter what your level of experience. Get your gear on and get active.
